Walking The Right Way - Tohit

Topic :- "It is better to walk alone than to walk with a crowd going in the wrong direction"
Here is what Tohit writes:-

It is better to  walk alone than to walk with a crowd going in the wrong direction. This statement means we are the ones who have a choice of two directions in our life because there are always two choices one is good and another is bad and we have the rights to choose the right way.
Eg:- If you have seen or known about Savitribai Phule who was a very perseverant lady who always wanted girls also be educated but then she fought for it.Maximun number of people pointed her as a looser but she didn't care about it and fought and got success. Now people's thoughts are that everyone should get equal opportunity.
So you have also known about Sudha Murthy,Mahatma Gandhi, Malala,Aung Sau Su Ki, these are the people who fought for their problems.
I am telling you that if you are taking your decision wrong, then you are the one who is loosing. So my suggestion is you take your own decision , don't depend on others. Your choice defines you. Truth always wins. The path of truth is not always simple but good actions will bring good results. When you realize your mistake do not blame others. Follow what your heart says, do not follow negativity.Don't give up until you destroy the evils within you.Perseverance is the key to success.
In life you should remember one thing is that the highway to success is not simple, we have to solve the circumstances and they can be solved by our own right decisions.

Walking the Right Way - Vanshika

I gave the students a topic to write on  "It is better to walk alone than to walk with a crowd going in the wrong direction".Here is what Vanshika writes.

Is it important or better to walk alone than to walk in a crowd going in the wrong direction? Does it mean to walk alone or does it mean never walk in a crowd because you may not see the way? This statement above gives me an opportunity to answer some doubts and questions.
Let me start with some examples of great people who walked alone when they thought they were right.
Savitribai Phule who fought for girls' education, Sudha Murthy who stood for girls doing men's jobs,Malala who went against terrorists for the sake of education and Priyanka Kadam from our school who is fighting for discipline and manners. They all had their own choices which are defining them now. They didn't believe anyone blindly. They thought what is good and bad for them. They were against society because they thought differently.
When they did so, slowly the society too followed them.Ultimately truth always wins. Now you have the choice in your hand, do you want to walk alone with a clear conscience or walk with a crowd without thinking. The choice is yours!

Me The Brain - Rutika

This is an essay written by Rutika Nimankar!

I am a huge storage for all your memories, good or bad, happy or sad. I can make you think.I can make you work,co-ordinate all the actions of your body.I help you make choices and take decisions. Can you guess who am I?................Yes you are right, I am your brain.
I am with you all the time from the time of your birth till the time of your death.I know you more than you know yourself.I am the one who makes you overcome your obstacles and always helps you to be optimistic. When you study and get knowledge that your friends don't know,I help you to share knowledge and shine in front of your friends.I control your emotions.I let you know the difference between good and bad.If you people utilize me well I will be your vehicle to success.          Many good people do not entertain disrespect, dishonesty, discrimination, violence, oppression etc.I always tell people that don't worry about tomorrow, don't keep on repeating mistakes of yesterday, just enjoy each and every second of your today's life because you never know what is going to happen in future.I also say that life is the first gift, love is the second so whatever you do in your life, you should feel it and love it because good or bad circumstances keep coming in your life. You have the choice to do good or evil.
But those people who have never heard of me or have heard of me but do not follow my advice are facing misery and problems in their life because they chose to do evil things.I say all these things to you because whatever you think is transferred into your actions. One more reason is that 3 things in your life never come back

    Arrow once left
    Words once spoken
    Time once past

So always listen to your brain and choose the good and right way.

Letter to BMC Officer- Darshini

This is another excellent piece of writing by Darshini Chavan.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Darshini Chavan a student of Shindewadi Std7, resident of Gautam Nagar. The reason to write this letter is that we do agree to your decision to make us shift from our place. We know that you are thinking that staying in the building is dangerous and it might collapse soon.
However education is important for us because if we do not educate we might face many obstacles and we will not achieve success in life.It would be difficult to give back to the society. We will have many problems travelling. Our time would be wasted in travel. We would loose focus on our studies. If we move somewhere else we will have problems like poor hygiene, water problems and our presence in school will decrease.
We request you to provide us a house close to the location of our school as soon as possible.
                        Thanking You,
                                                                                                     Yours sincerely
                                                                                                    Darshini Chavan

A Letter To The BMC Officer - Purvi

Following the Dockyard building collapse, some of my students staying at Dadar-Gautam Nagar have also been asked to evacuate their houses. However they have been asked to move to a distant place due to which they are facing a grave issue.
In my writing class I asked the students to write a letter to the BMC officer requesting him/her to provide them a house near the school. And here is what one of them (Purvi Waghela) writes. She has written the letter as a parent requesting the officer to provide a house nearby as she wants the children of her society to not miss school!!

Dear Sir/Madam,
We are the people of Gautam Nagar requesting you to give a house nearby to live because our children have grown up.Their studies have become difficult. They need to get proper time to study at home.If they will take much time to travel, it will be difficult for them to study and do their HW.
We understand what you are saying and know that the building might collapse anytime. We people work hard for our kids to get education because we we did not study. We want our children to study and become independent and have integrity and fight against injustice. If we work hard we will go ahead.Sitting at home will never take us ahead.
We wrote this letter to make you understand this issue.Because of one problem of building we don't want our children to develop the habit of sitting idle at home.
We hope you understand our situation and provide us a house nearby.
                                                                                                         Yours faithfully,
                                                                                                           Purvi Waghela

Student Writing Pieces!!

As per my last to last blog,I had promised I would post a few of my kids' writing pieces on the topic. Here are two of them.

Dungar Chundawat.

Role of Men and Women In the Society

Man is a social animal,he can't stay alone in this world.People stay together in the society so that they can solve each others' problems. In some places there is inequality and gender bias.Men and women are equal, they both need to obtain knowledge, learn and share their opinions.Everyone has freedom of choice. If the country is independent, then people should also be independent.
Independence was not to just get free from the British but also changing the mindset of Indians and fighting against injustice.During freedom, girls were getting educated. Women like Savitribai Phule, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Ramabai Ranade fought for the education of girls. The girls were getting education but they used to do household work, teaching or nursing.
During the partition, women suffered due to riots.Prostitution was happening, women were being sold. Then there were women like Kiran Bedi- the first IPS officer, Kalpana Chawla - the first Indian astronaut to go to space,Sudha Murthy - first woman engineer to work in Telco,Indira Gandhi - first woman Prime Minister of India, Rani Laxmibai who fought bravely against the British. These women fought for true independence.Apart from work today women also take additional responsibilities.
In a democratic country everyone has a right to choose. Some parents force their choices upon their children.Human beings live their own life.Women play a part in improving the society.Women need their own identity. Both men and women are capable of doing similar jobs. They can work hand in hand and should get equal opportunities.
I think they need not apply for different jobs as they are capable of doing similar jobs.

A funny hilarious one by Yash Solanki ;)
(Don't miss Kareena)

Autobiography of a Saree
I was  __________. Do you want to know what I was? I was a saree. I was in a stark purple and red colour. There were lots of sarees but I was the best one.I was kept inside for a long time and then transported with others.
A man came,he chose me .His name was Yash Solanki.I was kept in a box. It was so hot,Yash kept driving his car and I was bored. Then he took me out and kept me in the cupboard and I got lots of friends but they all were suits.I waiting for him to take me out. On Valentine's day he took me out and gifted me to his girlfriend. Do you want to know the name of his girlfriend? Her name was Kareena Kapoor. He had proposed her .They both were considerate people. On seeing me she said "What a nice saree?"
She was very happy but then after some days I got suspicious. She stopped liking me and liked other sarees.
One day she had kept me outside.A cat came and ruined me. I was so sad.She asked Yash to throw away the saree. They both put me in a box and threw me in a bad bad territory. The place had a very bad odour. I just sat there thinking, once upon a time I was the best saree.

More to come soon. I will keep posting the writing pieces of the kids!

EOY Writing Samples

I wanted to share a few of the well written essay samples from the EOY assessment. The kids still have a long way to go but they stated their ideas so beautifully that I couldn't resist sharing them. A few have written about people who made a deep impression in their lives while few have stated what they would like to change in their lives. Listed below are the kids and their writing samples

Fauziya Shaikh
The most important person in my life is Pukhraj Didi. She is the best teacher in my life. She has made a difference by teaching me fabulously. She has improved me in everything. She has taught me lots of new things like new words, given us sheets to solve because we should not forget. She has taken us for many field trips and always helped us learn something new and interesting.
I will never forget her because she is the best teacher in my life.I really am grateful to her.I also know that she worked hard to teach us. She has put her full efforts in teaching. She used to teach us in a nice way and was very polite. If we didn’t understand she used to take extra classes. We have hurt her a lot and sometimes she used to cry.
In the end when she left school forever she still had a big plan for us. Her plan was to make us intelligent, smart and educated. I know that she misses us a lot and we too miss her a lot. After writing this essay, I feel like I want to cry because I miss her a lot.

Priyanka
The most important things in my life are courage, perseverance and optimism. A lady had seen ups and downs in her life. She also faced many obstacles, she overcame those. She is a best example of ‘Our choices  define us’.
A person from whom I learn’t ‘Property is not the only thing in world, many other things are required for a country’s progress. Successful people don’t do different things, they do things differently’. Her name is Radha Sooryavansham. A teacher who protected her students. Radha also served humanity.
Once Radha came to a village. She was a teacher in a small school. She did not have anybody. The villagers were conservative, they would send girls to the head of the village’s house. He would molest them and involve them in human trafficking. When Radha heard this from a student, she went to the student’s parents and asked for legal adoption. They said no. She did many things to stop it happen. Then one day she killed the sarpanch and saved her student. She also sold her jewellery, property and raised fund for the school. She built a NGO for all those girls who had suffered from this. She was not arrested because she had killed him in self defence.
Everyone has courage inside them, the thing is to show it. Money can buy soldiers but not bravery,Money can buy scholars but not their wisdom, money can buy books but not knowledge.

Abhishek
I want to change one thing about the world. When old people give bad words, younger children also do the same. We should tell everyone to not give bad words.
One day I was walking on a road,I saw young children smoking, giving bad words and teasing girls. We should tell them not to do this. We can use pepper spray or chilli spray if people tease girls. Then only they will forget to do things like these. If boys do not listen, then we can take action and tell the Police to take them to jail and we can do a hunger-strike and tell everyone that it is wrong.

Dungar
If I could change one thing about the world,I would change the mindsets of people of the whole world. I want to change their mindsets because I heard that people are bombing in other countries, girls are getting killed because of gender discrimination and are not given equal opportunities.
Because of all these things, the future generations also have the same mindsets.Girls are not getting opportunities.Fights between countries are getting worse. They are using inventions in a negative way.Citizens  of many countries are killed.People do not come out of their houses. They believe in superstitions, animal sacrifices.
Girls do not get to share their ideas and suggestions. In many poor countries people are teaching young children to use guns, make human bombs and attack people. Poor people don’t think and send their children to terrorists because they get money in return. In many villages there is not proper education and hence the villagers do not earn.
In some countries, the mindsets are changing. More and more people get educated. If something can change the mindsets of people then that is education. But people use education in a wrong way. Many people want to fight for injustice. I want to tell people that girls can do everything that a boy can to progress.

Yash Khot
I want to change one thing, that is stop alcohol factories.
I want to stop alcohol factories because when people drink alcohol, they come home and start giving bad words to their wives and beat their children.Sometimes the wives and children die because they are tired.
People look at the family and say’ This is the son of the drunkard’. When the alcoholic goes to the doctor, the doctor tells them that your kidneys have failed. The person can’t tolerate and goes up to the terrace and jumps down.
If you want to stop your father from drinking alcohol, then given that product a full stop and come with me to write a letter to the Prime Minister to stop the production of alcohol and give reasons. Stop the factory of alcohols and make your house a alcohol free house. Thank you and take time and think about it.

Vanshika
Anish Bhaiya is the one who has been important to me because inspite of being a flute teacher,he always used to encourage me in all the things I wanted to do like football etc.Whenever we were depressed or confused he used to help us in solving our issues.
He always used to tell us that you can be like boys and do whatever you want to. If our parents disagreed to our opinions, Anish Bhaiya used to talk with our parents personally and allow us to continue. On 15th August 2012 he left India and went abroad to study but our flute practice continued on Saturdays. We used to chat on Skype. Whenever we had our performance, he used to come to India and teach us.
Inspite of being a flute teacher, he always was like our best friend. He was a guide to me. I always used to trouble him but when he went abroad ,I realized that. I would always remember him in my life. I think that Anish Bhaiya was broad-minded and eco-friendly.
I always think that I would be like him and get inspired by him and seeing me many others would be inspired by me and the opportunities for girls and boys would be equal.

Yash Solanki
A person who I know has been important to me is Chandrika Didi. She had taken lots of efforts to teach us. She took us on many field trips. She speaks politely to us.If we don’t understand she explains us.She is considerate to us and her conduct is very nice. She tell us to never give up.
She is important in my life because she works hard. She teaches us a lot of things we do not know. She tells us ‘You have to work really hard so you will surpass other’. She does not tell you are inferior, I will not teach you and you are superior and I will teach you. She does not discriminate between us. She does not beat us. She taught us to use vocab words and speak in proper English.
In my life that is why she is very important to me.

Rutika
The most important person in my life is my Dad. When I was born and when he got to know I was a baby girl he did not react like some others who would say No! A baby girl. He was very keen to see me and my mother was too glad.
My father used to help me. Whatever I wanted he gave me, he never said no. He used to forgive me for my mistakes. He taught me the 3 words ‘self-independence, integrity, perseverance’. I love to draw, he allowed me to join drawing classes. He is never dependent on others. Today at the age of 45, he drives the car everyday only for us. Now-a-days he has to face many obstacles, sometimes he does not talk to me too. But I know that his love for us has not reduced.
I say that life is the first gift, love is the second and a person who makes you successful is the third gift. I have been able to achieve only because of one person and that is my father. I love my father.

Yogita
A person important to me is Milind Bhaiya. He taught me English. He came to our home. He used to come home and teach us. He danced with us. He taught me Maths.

Niha
If I could change one thing in the world. Do you know what it would be? I know it won’t change today itself but it will change someday.
I want to change the difference between boys and girls and make them equal forever. I don’t want girls to be at home and do all the household work and boys to roam anywhere they want to, go to play and go to school. I am not saying that boys should not get freedom, they should get but what about girls? They should also get freedom to go outside and play outside. Girls should do housework but boys should help them in it eg cooking, sweeping. Girls should go to school, work hard and become something and their parents that ‘see if you would not have sent me to school,I would not have become this person’. They should stand on their legs and make their parents proud of them.
Girls and boys are equal and no one can make them different. I will change this by going to all houses in our community. Now also there are people who are not treating girls equally but one day they will understand about equality between girls and boys.
